GRID/JSON started as a shared frustration: every online JSON tool we opened was slow, ad-heavy, tracked our data, or hid useful features behind a paywall. So we shipped our own — free, fast, private, and beautiful. The kind of tool we’d proudly link to a colleague.
Our story
We are a small team of full-stack engineers, designers and open-source enthusiasts scattered across three continents. Between us we’ve shipped software at fintechs, dev-tool companies and a couple of scrappy startups. On the side, we kept a private Notion doc titled “utilities we’d actually use” — JSON viewers with a real grid mode, a JWT decoder that shows the expiry status, a UUID generator that supports v7, and so on.
In early 2025 we finally sat down for a weekend, opened a fresh Next.js repository, and started shipping. GRID/JSON is what came out of it: a single, focused home for the everyday utilities we reach for on the terminal, in Postman, or in random tabs. Free forever, funded by unobtrusive display ads and community support.
What we believe
The best developer tools are the ones you don’t notice. They stay out of your way, do exactly what you asked, and never ask you to sign up. That belief drives every choice we make — from the keyboard-first UX and the client-side architecture, to the deliberately minimal design language.
